The department was proud to host a delegation of six USDA Foreign Agricultural Service Cochran Fellows from Cambodia and seven from Kenya. The Cambodian delegation toured Tennessee in August to learn more about how to measure, track, and disseminate information about grain prices and production. The Kenyan delegation focused on learning more about production, regulatory standards, trade, and policy for the beer, wine, and spirit industry in the United States.
Departmental faculty leading the effort include Andrew Muhammad and Aaron Smith. Karen DeLong and Bill Johnson also presented to the Cambodian delegation.
The Institute of Agriculture hosted a total of five delegations of scholars, facilitated by the UT Smith Center for International Sustainable Agriculture. Dave Ader and Hans Goertz from the Center were vital to the overall success. Learn more about the international fellows and their visit to the Institute here.
The Cochran Fellows from Kenya had the opportunity to tour Chemist Spirits, an artisan prohibition-era distillery located in downtown Asheville, North Carolina. The Cochran Fellows from Cambodia had a great time visiting the University of Arkansas’ Rice Research and Extension Center. The Cochran Fellows from Cambodia received a warm welcome at USDA in Washington, DC. Andrew Muhammad (second from the left), AREC professor and departmental host, was there to greet the cohorts.
